Other Important
Information and Precautions
Do not take Ritalin (methylphenidate) without first talking to
your doctor or therapist if you have:
- Severe tension or anxiety
- Glaucoma
- Motor tics or have been
diagnosed with Tourette's syndrome
- Depression
- A psychotic condition such as
schizophrenia
- Epilepsy or another seizure
disorder
- High blood pressure
(hypertension)
- A history of alcohol or drug
abuse
You may not be able to take this
medication, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special
monitoring during treatment, if you have any of these conditions. In addition to the information
listed above, there may be other important issues or precautions
related to this medication. For further information, you can ask
your prescribing doctor or therapist.
Side-Effect Information
Only some people will experience side-effects--and no one
experiences side-effects in exactly the same way. If you experience
any of the following serious side-effects, stop taking Ritalin
(methylphenidate) immediately and seek emergency medical attention:
- An allergic reaction (difficulty
breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue,
or face; hives)
- An irregular or fast heartbeat
- Chest pains or very high blood
pressure (blurred vision, severe headache, flushing)
- Stuttering
- Unusual behavior or confusion
- Hallucinations
- Liver damage (yellowing of the
skin or eyes, nausea, abdominal pain or discomfort, unusual
bleeding or bruising, severe fatigue)
